About Kululeko

Freedom that people can feel in their own streets.

Kululeko means freedom. For us that means economic freedom: the freedom to walk to work safely, to start and grow a business, and to find work close to home.

Our mission

Unlock the township economy, so inequality falls.

Townships are home to millions of South Africans and a great deal of untapped economic potential. That potential is held back by problems that are practical and fixable: crime that keeps people indoors and investors away, capital that does not reach black-owned businesses, rules that are too complicated to follow, and too few routes into work.

Our work begins by identifying those barriers, on the ground and with the people affected. Each Kululeko project then takes on one of them. We keep adding projects as we learn more and as funding allows.
